About ProPrime-U

ProPrime-U is a two-component, high-solid content primer. Formulated to offer a fast re-coat time, it boasts low viscosity, ensuring seamless application. The high solid content emphasizes its durability, while its low odor makes it particularly user-friendly, especially in enclosed spaces.

ProPrime-U is an essential component in the XRC PRO systems, serving primarily as an intercoat adhesion agent for re-coating existing urethane systems. When combined with Shield-100 Hardener, it functions as a rapid-drying concrete primer, suitable for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic deck coatings. In cases where the recoat window has elapsed, it's recommended to solvent wipe the surface before applying ProPrime-U to ensure optimal adhesion.

Coverage Rate

300 sq ft per Gallon

Mixing Ratios for Rapid-Drying Primer

For a 2-gallon (7.57 l) kit: Mix ProPrime-U Side-A with Side-B, followed by the addition of 1/2 pint (23 ml) of Shield-100 Hardener.

For a 10-gallon (37.85 l) kit: Combine ProPrime-U Side-A and Side-B, then incorporate 1 quart (95 ml) of Shield-100 Hardener.

ProPrime-U Application & Guidelines

Application Rate

Apply ProPrime-U (a mixture of Side-A & Side-B) at a rate of 1 gallon/300 sqft (0.14 liters/sqm). The precise coverage rate may vary based on the substrate's roughness and porosity.

Application Methods

ProPrime-U is versatile and can be applied with an airless sprayer, brush, or a phenolic resin core roller. To ensure uniform coverage, avoid allowing the product to puddle on the surface.

Drying Time

The approximate tack-free time for ProPrime-U is between 2-4 hours under conditions of 75°F (24°C) and 50% relative humidity. If ProPrime-U remains tack-free for over 12 hours, you should clean the surface with a VOC-compliant solvent and reapply the primer.

Temperature Guidelines

The recommended surface temperature for application should exceed 50°F (10°C) and be at least 5°F (3°C) above the dew point. Note that ProPrime-U is sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations.

Cleanup

Immediately after use, clean equipment with an eco-friendly solvent adhering to local regulations.

Storage Recommendations

ProPrime-U, when stored indoors between 60-95°F (15-35°C), has a shelf life of 1 year from the manufacturing date in its original, sealed container.

Limitations

ProPrime-U should be coated within 12 hours after becoming tack-free. It's not UV stable, so avoid direct sunlight. Surfaces should be dry, clean, and free from foreign substances. Use opened containers of ProPrime-U promptly. Avoid dilution and mix only what can be used within 20 minutes.

Safety Warning

ProPrime-U contains isocyanates and curative compounds. Handle with care.

Take note that ProPrime-U is highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations and humidity. Elevated temperatures or high humidity can drastically speed up the curing time and reduce pot life. Conversely, low temperatures or diminished humidity can prolong the curing time. Cleanup: Immediately after use, clean equipment with an eco-friendly solvent adhering to local regulations. Storage Recommendations: ProPrime-U, when stored indoors at temperatures ranging from 60-95°F (15-35°C), has a shelf life of 1 year from its manufacturing date, provided it remains in its original, factory-sealed container. Limitations: After reaching a tack-free state, ProPrime-U should be coated within 12 hours. The product isn't UV stable, so it should be shielded from direct sunlight. It's imperative for surfaces to be dry, clean, and devoid of any foreign substances. Once opened, containers of ProPrime-U should be used promptly. Due to its composition, the cured ProPrime-U is challenging to clean. Avoid diluting the product and ensure you mix only the amount you can use within a 20-minute window. Safety Warning: ProPrime-U contains isocyanates and curative compounds. Exercise caution during handling and application.
